A siren’s whisper— before eternal effervescence
In the rear-view mirror of your white corvette
I watched the sun set on the back of your neck
“And felt the taste of you bubble up inside me”. ¹
I stood silent, behind, as you walked down sand
Hearing seagulls above scouring the land as
They swam over crabs scuttling back into the sea.
Yesterday’s moon bloomed earlier than I’d thought
And so the pink sea mist followed suit, and brought
Salty air over the ocean at 6 P.M.
Like a cherry pit sprouting from its crimson shell
I discarded my blue, woollen cell
From my shoulders, and ran back to be yours again.
But summer had slipped us under her tongue;
Her saliva was foamy, and her uvula
Stung like the beginnings of a stripe-less bumble bee.
And winter had left me alone in my cocoon
Without you to fill up the space in my womb,
So. soon, I fizzled away, back into my sea.
