moving on

The blue wind carries the night to the city

as the rising moon melts onto the twilight sky.

A star shatters and I watch with pity

as its shards flicker like a dying firefly.

The neon lights from the windows of your apartment

sway in the reflection of my eyes

as I watch you two dance while i stand

underneath, waiting for my teardrops to dry.

The overflowing city lights flood in at my feet

and rouse the desperate loss I feel to the surface.

Under the velvet street lamp I stare in defeat;

Moving on never failed to hurt us.
