a keplerian’s sonnet

Asleep among the spider lily field

We feel the world slowly close its eyes

And shield us from the starry battlefield

Of shattering suns and splintering skies.

A mellow breeze soon fills my cheeks with red,

Just like the crimson pigments that seep into

The flowers surrounding us on this bed,

Yet still the moon shines softly that cool, blue hue.

And when I move to grasp your shaking hands,

You curse the stars that caused your heart to ache

Again. Tonight we hide our wedding bands

Before the jealous, judging world will wake.

The dawn shines gently on your purple face,

I tell you life was warmer up in space.
